The Publishing Process

The publishing process for academic work starts with a journal editor who will monitor and encourage the peer review of the work. Once this has been completed, the publishing figure will accept it for publication. Often before this can happen all associated imaging and any figures provided with the work must also be approved for publication. Most often, peer review is complete online, today, as there are several types of software programs to simplify the process.

After peer review, the work comes back to the author who makes changes in line with the peer review information provided. The editor continues this back and forth process until the finished work fits the overall goals and requirements.

The final steps of the academic publishing takes the finished work through copy editing and typesetting, and then it is included in the journal. The printing of the publication is done followed by the addition of the information in the online format, if this online method will be used. The author of the work plays a role in the entire process, meeting the needs of the editor throughout.
